Biosafety Cabinet Location And Installation
Once you have selected the Biosafety Cabinet depending on your requirement, one of the critical decisions to be made next is the location of the cabinet in your laboratory and the installation best practices.
You should thoroughly check the intended installation site to ensure it will meet the requirements for proper biosafety cabinet operation.
In this blog, we will look at the NSF guidelines to choose the best location for your BSCs.
KEY CRITERIA | BEST PRACTICES | |
Location | Don’t disrupt airflow patterns | The cabinet should be located away from traffic patterns, doors, fans, ventilation registers, fume hoods and any other air-handling device that could disrupt its airflow patterns. |
Location | Close the windows | All windows in the room should be closed. |
Location | Furthest from the entry door | The BSC should be located at the wall furthest from and facing the entry door. If this is not possible, the BSC should be located on the side wall perpendicular to the hinge side of the door. |
